It was extremely unexpected and unplanned but in the midst of me looking for new jobs, my parents found a house that just went up for sale in a much nicer neighborhood than we were at. It has sidewalks, a community pool (that we had starting taking the kids to when my parents moved into that neighborhood), the elementary school was within walking distance, the house was 1000 square feet bigger, the lawn was still big (.55 acres) and much of the structural work was already done (new roof, new a/c, new furnance, updated kitchen/bathrooms etc). Does it have issues? Heck, yes. We wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. But we love the house.
