Emergency Room

Well, it took nearly 4 years but we finally had to take a child to the emergency room on Sunday. Saturday night, Stephen and I had a date. We went to Divy for a quick dinner and then to see the Star Wars movie (I wasn't a fan). When we came home, their babysitter said that Thomas was starting to get a rash and was lethargic etc. We thought he might be getting chicken pox.

The next morning, he wouldn't use his feet. We noticed a bruise on one of his ankles and thought that was the cause. We also noticed his rash was spreading but thought it might be hand/foot/mouth instead of chicken pox. When we woke up from his afternoon nap he was crying historically that his hands hurt. Stephen took him to Medcheck who then referred us to the emergency room. They later admitted them (so they were both at the hospital for about 24 hours) and he was tentatively diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein Purpura which is basically a reaction to a virus where his blood vessels become inflammed. It can cause a million things like strep and arthritis- both of which he had.

Poor kid is home now and it's probably going to take about a week for him to recover (with the help of meds). He's walking some although he's unsteady. I say a tentative diagnoses because the rash that he had didn't follow the typical (of course). Apparently poor Thomas has gotten my penchant for acquiring weird medical issues.
